About Us
CYMDEITHAS EISTEDDFODAU CYMRU — the Society of Eisteddfodau of Wales — is dedicated to fostering and supporting local eisteddfodau across Wales. We provide practical assistance and resources to organising committees, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of eisteddfodau continues to thrive and inspire future generations.
At the heart of our work is a belief that local eisteddfodau are vital community institutions. They bring people together through music, poetry, dance, and the spoken word, preserving traditions that have shaped Welsh cultural life for centuries. Our role is to help those traditions flourish at the grassroots level.
What We Do
We offer a range of services to local eisteddfod committees, including event-planning guidance, funding advice, and marketing support. Our development projects — supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund — have delivered workshops in folk dancing, folk singing, and cerdd dant, led by our Development Officers Trystan Lewis and Geraint Hughes.
We also run initiatives to strengthen the skills base within the eisteddfodau community. A mentoring scheme for aspiring recitation adjudicators, proposed by Siân Teifi at the Annual Meeting held at the Swansea Eisteddfod, paired newcomers with ten experienced adjudicators for shadowing opportunities.
Our Reach
From organising special competitions — such as the 2010 Duet Competition for the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale — to helping local committees upload programmes and share news, we work to connect eisteddfodau across Wales and give them a stronger collective voice.
Whether you are an organiser, a competitor, an adjudicator, or simply someone who cares about Welsh traditional culture, we welcome your interest and involvement.
